For many St. Marys and Camden County residents, Gilman Paper Mill’s site on the North River is a reminder of our glory days. In the 1970s and 1980s, it employed half the town and was the engine that powered our small community. In 2002, after being purchased by Durango Products of Mexico, it was shuttered. The engine that powered St. Marys had puttered to a complete stop.
‘Eco-tourism’ site to replace Dormant paper mill facility

Community and business leaders – and Gov.Brian Kemp – broke ground Friday morning on a 722-acre mixed development “eco-tourism destination” in St. Marys that will make use of the long-dormant Gilman Paper Mill site. The Cumberland Inlet Project, led by Jacoby Development, is slated to include houses and town homes, a marina, a marina village and an “upscale recreational eco-tourism park,” according to a masterplan approved by the city of St. Marys in March.
County approves creation of Etowah Allatoona Economic Corridor

Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor approved an agenda item creating a roughly 1,500-acre economic corridor spanning from Paga Mine Road to Allatoona Landing at a public meeting Wednesday morning. Taylor’s approval designates 32 parcels of land included in a redevelopment plan designed by Atlanta firm Bleakly Advisory Group that outlines a possible tax allocation district (TAD) in southern Bartow.
