Renowned developer Jim Jacoby of the Jacoby Group is poised to purchase the former paper mill site in St. Marys and hopes to close on the sale by the end of the year. Jacoby plans to follow through with the Camden County Joint Development Authority’s vision for a marine facility, where boats can be docked, serviced and stored, with some minor redesigns. It also includes a town center with restaurant, retail and residential units.

Atlanta’s Jacoby Development is planning a 700-acre mixed-use project in Camden County on Georgia’s coast. The project, called Cumberland Inlet, calls for the redevelopment of approximately 722 acres of the former Durango Paper Mill site located within the city of St. Marys, and adjacent to the North River.

An agreement reached last week between a private developer and three local governments could mark the return of the former paper mill site in St. Marys as an economic driver. Camden County Joint Development Authority (JDA) met in executive session on June 18, and then reconvened in public to unanimously approve the agreement.

A redevelopment plan for the former paper mill site in St. Marys got one step closer to reality last week with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Camden County Joint Development Authority (JDA) and Jacoby Development. Described as an essential first step in the process, the 27-page memorandum outlines the frameworks and parameters for an eventual development agreement.
